Notice of the meeting was duly advertised as required by law.

Mr. Summer called the meeting to order and determined a quorum to be present.

Mr. Caldwell moved to adopt the agenda; second by Mr. Waldrop.  Vote was unanimous.

The purpose of the work session was to meet with representatives from Newberry County Memorial Hospital to discuss the funding of the MRI project from the proceeds of the Capital Project Sales Tax.  The MRI project was to be funded through excess collections and/or interest from the sales tax.  Representatives attending from Newberry County Memorial Hospital were:  Lynn Beasley, President and CEO, Debbie Roberts, Vice-President of Patient Care, Steve Sawyer, Chief Financial Officer, Brenda Gallman, Director of Diagnostic Imaging, Dr. Zachary Kilpatrick, Medical Staff, and Wilson Holmes, Kings Medical (MRI Partner).

Mr. Beasley, Mr. Sawyer, Dr. Kilpatrick, Ms. Gallman and Mr. Holmes discussed three segments to be considered regarding the funding of the MRI project; those being, timing for the project, clinical need for equipment and community need and the best interest of the county.  If the project were delayed to the end of the collections of the one cents sales tax, there would be serious financial consequences in that construction costs would have increased.  Mr. Beasley requested that Council consider authorizing the release of funds for the MRI project now.

There being no further business to come before Council during the work session, the meeting adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
