MINUTES

APRIL 20, 2006

The Newberry County Council met on Thursday, April 20, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. in the Conference Room for a budget workshop.

Present were: Mike Hawkins, Chairman

William D. Waldrop, Vice-Chairman

John E. Caldwell, Councilman

Henry B. Summer, Councilman

John David Dawkins, Councilman

Andy Morris, Councilman

Edgar Baker, Councilman

J.E. Klugh, Acting County Administrator

Gary T. Pope, County Attorney

Susan C. Fellers, Clerk to Council

Debbie S. Cromer, Finance Director

Press: Cindy Pitts, Newberry Observer

Others Attending: Nancy Owen, County Auditor

Judy Floyd, County Treasurer

Dan Kingston, Sheriff’s Office

Notice of the meeting was duly advertised as required by law.

Mr. Hawkins requested that Mr. Summer preside as Chairman over all budget workshops.

Mr. Summer called the meeting to order and determined a quorum to be present.

Mr. Pope had the invocation.

[Council met from 1:00 p.m. to 1:35 p.m. at which time they recessed to attend the funeral of Tina Bishop, employee of Animal Control Department. Council reconvened at 2: 50 p.m.]

[John Caldwell left at 2:55 p.m. because of prior obligations.]

During this work session, County Council discussed revenues with Nancy Owen, Auditor. Also discussed were the following as possible alternate sources of generating revenue for the County:

1. Road Maintenance Fee

2. Accommodations Tax

3. Hospitality Tax

4. Jail fees for municipalities

5. Code Enforcement

6. One time fee for sale of timber

The meeting adjourned at 4:22 p.m.
