NEWBERRY COUNTY COUNCIL

MINUTES

MAY 16, 2007

 

 

Newberry County Council met on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Courthouse Annex, 1309 College Street, Newberry, SC, for a work session.                      

 

Present were:                William D. Waldrop, Vice-Chairman

                                    John E. Caldwell, Councilman

                                    John David Dawkins, Councilman

                                    Mike Hawkins, Councilman

                                    Henry H. Livingston, III, Councilman (arrived at 5:05 p.m.) 

                        Wayne Adams, County Administrator

                                    Susan C. Fellers, Clerk to Council

                                    Debbie S. Cromer, Finance Director

 

Absent:             Henry B. Summer, Chairman

                                    Edgar Baker, Councilman

                                    Gary T. Pope, County Attorney

 

Media:                          Cindy Pitts, Newberry Observer

                                    Heather Hawkins, WKDK

                                   

Notice of the meeting was duly advertised as required by law.

 

Mr. Waldrop called the meeting to order and determined a quorum to be present.   

 

The purpose of this work session was to discuss the Sheriff’s Office on Highway 219.  Accordingly Councilman Edgar Baker and County Attorney Gary Pope were not in attendance at any time during the work session.

 

Mr. Dawkins moved to adopt the agenda as amended; second by Mr. Caldwell.  Vote was unanimous.  [Councilmen Summer, Livingston and Baker absent.]

 

[Councilman Livingston arrived at 5:05 p.m.]

 

Mike Dunkle and Jim Stewart with Stewart-Cooper-Newell-Architects, P.A. presented and reviewed proposal for Sheriff’s Office building on Highway 219.  (The written report and proposal were not submitted to the Clerk to Council for permanent records.)

 

Ervin West with Carter Goble Lee also reported to Council on the building.

 

After the presentations, Mr. Hawkins felt the County should not spend any more money on studies or investigations of the building until the County’s attorney can meet with Council to discuss the matter. 

 

There being no further business, Mr. Livingston moved to adjourn; second by Mr. Dawkins.  Vote was unanimous.  [Councilmen Summer and Baker absent.]

 

Meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
