WORK SESSION
The Newberry County Council met on Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Courthouse Annex, 1309 College Street, Newberry, SC, for a work session.
Present were: Henry B. Summer, Chairman
William D. Waldrop, Vice-Chairman
John E. Caldwell, Councilman
John Dawkins, Councilman
Edgar Baker, Councilman
Henry H. Livingston, III, Councilman
Wayne Adams, County Administrator
Gary T. Pope, County Attorney
Susan C. Fellers, Clerk to Council
Debbie S. Cromer, Finance Director
Absent: Mike Hawkins, Councilman
Press: Cindy Pitts, The Newberry Observer
Heather Hawkins, WKDK
Notice of the meeting was duly advertised as required by law.
Mr. Summer called the meeting to order and determined a quorum to be present.
Mr. Waldrop moved to adopt the agenda; second by Mr. Baker. Vote was unanimous. [Councilman Hawkins absent.]
Mike Donkle and Jim Stewart with Stewart, Cooper, Newell Architects presented the feasibility study of the old Wal-Mart Building to house the Sheriff’s Department and other functions of Newberry County Government. A copy of the assessment is on file in the office of the Newberry County Administrator.
Mr. Stewart stated this project could work if the County puts more departments of County Government into the building than just the Sheriff’s Office. The advantages of this building would be co-location of agencies, space, less time to complete from start to finish, reusing empty space and bringing life to that part of town.
If the County should decide to pursue this, Council expressed interest in having a stipulation with the seller as to who buys the other portion of the mall.
There being no further business, Mr. Waldrop moved to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
