A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE REIMBURSMENT OF MONIES SPENT FOR NECESSARY OPERA HOUSE ROOF RENOVATIONS AND  REPAIRS

 

            WHEREAS, Newberry County Council has been petitioned by the Newberry Opera House Foundation for assistance in covering the costs of necessary roof repairs and renovations necessary maintain the structural integrity of the Newberry Opera House, the focal point of the revival of downtown Newberry ; and

WHEREAS, the Newberry County Council has reviewed the Petition and has determined that it is in the public interest to assist in the preservation of the structural integrity of this important civic gathering place, and the cultural heart of Newberry County, and has appropriated $100,000 in  the capital improvements section of the FY 2007-2008 Budget Ordinance for such assistance, and

WHEREAS, in order to avoid any possible conflict with any provision of the Internal Revenue Code in the event these funds come from any form of bonded indebtedness, it is the express intention of Newberry County Council that these funds be approved for use as reimbursement for repairs and renovations already started, and/or which are in the in the course of being made, or which may hereafter be undertaken in this fiscal year, to the maximum extent allowed by any applicable federal or state tax laws and regulations.

AND IT IS SO RESOLVED IN MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED AT NEWBERRY, SOUTH CAROLINA, THIS 20th DAY OF JUNE, 2007.
