A RESOLUTION COMMENDING BLUECROSS BLUESHIELD OF SOUTH CAROLINA FOR ITS SUPPORT OF THE FREE MEDICAL CLINIC OF NEWBERRY AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF NURSING AT NEWBERRY COLLEGE AND THE CONTINUED PROMOTION OF WELL-REASONED, LONG-RANGE HEALTHCARE POLICIES FOR THE FAMILIES OF SOUTH CAROLINA

 

Whereas, for more than 50 years, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina (BCBS) has endeavored to provide access to quality healthcare for all South Carolinians, ensuring that everyone in the Palmetto State has the opportunity to receive the health-related treatments they need to provide for a high quality of life; and

 

Whereas, BCBS has given back to the community in myriad ways, serving nearly 1 million customers and employing 12,000 of South Carolina's sons and daughters; and

 

Whereas, The BlueCross BlueShield Foundation has awarded millions of dollars in grants to local schools and medical facilities for hiring of healthcare professionals, furthering healthcare education and ensuring that all South Carolinians have access to affordable quality healthcare; and

 

Whereas, The BlueCross BlueShield Foundation has this year awarded more than $1.6 million in grants for such wide-ranging projects as awarding healthcare-related grants to various free medical clinics, health education programs, and school nursing programs; and

 

Whereas, The BlueCross BlueShield Foundation is contributing $50,000 to the Free Medical Clinic of Newberry to provide improved childhood and adolescent health and provide healthcare access for the uninsured and underinsured in Newberry County; and

 

Whereas, The BlueCross BlueShield Foundation is contributing $230,000 to the Nursing Department at Newberry College as a measure of support for the Department's goal of producing well-trained nurses who will serve a vital role in all facets of healthcare in Newberry County and beyond; and

 

Whereas, BCBS is constantly striving to ensure better access to top-quality healthcare for South Carolina families; and 

 

Whereas, BCBS has maintained an excellent community-friendly record in South Carolina and worked to be a good corporate neighbor, contributing millions in taxes and households through good, high-paying jobs; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE NEWBERRY COUNTY COUNCIL:

 

 SECTION 1. The Newberry County Council expresses its gratitude to BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina for investing in building the workforce of the future by investing in the education and health of South Carolina's students and future healthcare professionals; and

 

SECTION 2. The Newberry County Council recognizes the contributions by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina to classrooms and hospitals across the state, and specifically their contributions to the Free Medical Clinic of Newberry and the Department of Nursing at Newberry College.

 

AND IT IS SO RESOLVED IN MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED AT
