We are very pleased to announce the start of our new walking trail and club! ASTAHH, Animal Steps To A Healthy Heart, has been created in memory of our officer, Tina Bishop, in an attempt to promote heart health through the shelter, as well as getting members of the community out to support the shelter and get these dogs some exercise. Those 15 minutes that you dedicate on your lunch break to walking a shelter pet may lead to a longer, healthier life for both of you! Please join us!

On May 30th, we had a surprise visit from the students at Newberry Academy to present a donation to the shelter of $110 that they collected for the animals! Their goal was to collect 100 pennies each on the 100th day of school, but these students went above and beyond that to beat last year's donation! We appreciate their support and hope that they have a wonderful summer break!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!

On May 4th and May 11th, we had a special visit from some students at Boundary Street Elementary School on their way to and from the strawberry patch! They took a quick tour of the animal shelter, and brought us their donations of blankets that they have been working very hard on for the animals. They also presented the shelter with a Wal-Mart gift card for $350 dollars that they raised through their Pennies for Puppies which will provide for supplies that are always in need at the shelter. We appreciate all of their hard work!!

GUESS WHAT!!!! One of our Newberry County Animal Shelter dogs, "Jake," has been featured in a new book called

  Petfinder.com Presents: Second Chances

Inspiring Stories of Dog Adoption by Joan Banks.

We are very excited about "Jake's" chance to be a celebrity! He now has a "purr-fect fur-ever" home!

Available at Books On Main, Newberry

We are very excited about our newest renovation of a doggie playroom for potential adopters. The Newberry County Humane Society has graciously donated new park benches so that new dog and puppy adopters will have an area to visit with their new pets and make sure that the adoption is a "fur"ever match.

Thank you as always to Ms. Doris Dufford for her annual Christmas gifts of warm, fuzzy dog beds for the shelter babies. They are especially a great addition to our new doggie playroom, and as you can see, the dogs love them!

Thank you to our Newberry Wal-Mart and our Pet Department Manager, Veronica, and to the Very Best Pet Network for allowing us to display adoptable animals on the pet supply aisle. This allows many animals to be seen by the public, and increases the number of adoptions. Thank you for your support!

One year later and you are still in our thoughts and hearts every day! 4/17/07

This webpage is dedicated to the memory of Tina S. Bishop, a dedicated Animal Control Officer, and a wonderful friend. The animals of Newberry County are very fortunate to have their own guardian angel now!
