BOARD OF RURAL FIRE CONTROL

 

May 11, 2004

 

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Rural Fire Control was held at 7:30 PM, Tuesday, May 11, 2004 in the Emergency Operations Center of the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.

 

The following members were present: John Pollard, Larry Koon, Carol Thomas, Donald Wicker, Lewis Lee, Brain Fulmer, Bob Snelgrove, Todd Griffith and Bobby Pollard.

 

Also present Chief Rodney Griffith (Fairview/O’Neal Fire Department) Chief Aubrey Horne (St. Philips Fire Department), Michael Thomas (Whitmire Fire Department).

 

OPENING OF MEETING

 

Chairman Pollard called the meeting to order.

 

The Minutes of the April, 2004 meeting was reviewed and accepted.

 

 

PERSONAL APPERENCES

 

 

ADDITION, DELETIONS AND ADOPTION OF AGENDA

 

The Agenda was adopted as presented.

 

 

BUSINESS MEETING

 

Old Business:

 

E92 needs a fan and clutch replacement.  Station 9 has contacted 1st Vehicle.

E60 is still leaking.

Station 4 and 6 needs safety data sheets.

 

New Business:  

 

Chairman Pollard was told that at the last County Council meeting that the City and County Fire were merging.  Chairman stated he would get a copy of minutes.

 

Chairman stated that he purchased fourteen 3000 wt Honda portable generators and nozzles and foam.  He stated the purchase was a quick purchase because the budget cut off date was moved to April 30th instead of May 14th, for out of town venders.

Member B. Pollard made a motion to support the decision Chairman made for the quick purchases.

 

Member Fulmer asked how the purchase went through without bids. Chairman stated he did receive three bids from Home Depot, Lowe’s and Hedgepath and Sons.  Hedgepath won the bid.

 

Member Griffith was the only member to oppose the motion. The motion carried.

 

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

ISO:  ISO has mailed Member Griffith Newberry County maps to check over. He is currently working on this.

 

Building and Maintenance:   Nothing to report.

 

Communications:  Need all pager numbers from each department.  Chairman needs to turn the numbers in to Administration. The Annex is having a meeting with Nextel on May 18, 2004.

 

Truck and Equipment: Still do not have all trucks turned in.

 

Training Ground:  Nothing to report.

 

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

 

A motion was made, seconded and passed to enter into Executive Session for consideration of personnel matters.

 

Applications for membership were discussed.

 

Member Koon made a motion to come out of Executive Session. Member Griffith seconded. The motion passed with all in favor.

 

                                                                       

COMMENTS FROM THE CHAIRMAN

 

 

COMMENTS FROM BOARD MEMBERS

 

Member B. Pollard made a motion to create a membership committee.  This committee will address all questions that come up during Executive Session about rules on applicants with bad driver histories and criminal records.

 

Chairman nominated Members B. Pollard, Snelgrove, and Lee to serve on this committee.  The motion seconded by Member Wicker, the motion carried.

 

Member Thomas stated that Whitmire Fire Dept. will be burning three houses on June 5th, any department members are welcome to come.

                   

OTHER MATTERS

 

The Board of Spartan Motors (formally Crimson Fire) will be having a meeting on May 18, 2004 at 4:00 PM in Marion, SC.  The Board wants the BRFC to bring one of the new pumpers to be on display.  All expenses will be paid by Spartan Motors.

 

 

FUTURE MEETINGS

 

Regular Board meeting:  Tuesday, July13, 2004.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting.  The motion passed unanimously.
