Harriett Rucker

Dr. Harriett L. Rucker, daughter of the late Reverend Michael B. and Mary Nita Lee, is married to retired Family Court Judge John M. Rucker.  They are the parents of John Brandt Rucker and Wylie Marvin Rucker  and have five grandchildren.  Harriett and John are active members of Central United Methodist Church.  Having grown up as a minister's daughter, Harriett lived in several communities including Newberry where her father was minister of Epting Memorial UMC.  She has called Newberry home since that time.  Harriett received her BS degree from Presbyterian College, Master's from USC, EdS from Clemson, and EdD from SCSU.  Most of her professional career was spent working with the Newberry County Schools as a teacher and district level administrator.  She retired from the State of South Carolina Budget and Control Board.  Harriett served on the Newberry County School Board which she chaired.  She also served on the State Board of Education.  Currently, she serves on the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees.  Harriett was elected as the first female to serve on Newberry County Council beginning January 2017.
