Sex Offender Registration

The Newberry Sex Offender Registration Division performs several duties involving registered Sex Offenders and Sexual Predators living and working in Newberry County including those individuals located within the municipals as well as the rural areas of the county. People who are convicted of certain crimes are required to register with the Sheriff's Office of the county in which they reside or are employed. The division ensures that any known Sex Offender that lives or works in the county registers with the Sheriff's Office within the allotted time frame required by South Carolina Law. They also checks residences and employment locations of the Sex Offenders to ensure that they are in compliance with South Carolina Law.

Individuals are included on the sex offender registry solely by virtue of their conviction record and South Carolina state law. The primary purpose of providing this information is to make it easily available and accessible, not to warn about any specific individuals. Anyone who uses this information to commit a criminal act against another person is subject to criminal prosecution.

Information is updated regularly in an effort to assure that the information on the sex offender registry is complete and accurate; however, the Sheriff makes no representation, express or implied that the information is accurate. Offenders may have moved and failed to notify the Sheriff or local law enforcement agency as required by law. Additional information and verification can be obtained from the Sheriff's Office or the local law enforcement agency where the sex offender resides.

To maintain an accurate database of the convicted sex offenders throughout the municipals as and the rural areas of the county, scheduled registrations of the offenders are conducted as well as verifying the offender's address and place of employment. Failure to report to the Newberry County Sheriff's Office within the required times stated by law may cause criminal action to be taken. Furthermore, failure to report at the established times set by the Newberry County Sheriff's Office as stated above or failure to produce the required documentation or information at the time of reporting to the Newberry County Sheriff's Office may also cause criminal action to be taken.
